Hotlinking (Direct Linking) is when you use the original site's web address to link the photo directly from the original site to this board. We get many complaints from webmasters regarding bandwidth when this happens.
Bandwidth is the amount of data transferred from a web site to a user's computer. When you view a web page, you are using that site's bandwidth to display the files (images, etc.). Since web hosts charge sites based on the amount of data transferred (bandwidth), it becomes an issue. If a site is over its monthly bandwidth, it is billed for the extra data or taken offline.
- A simple analogy for bandwidth theft would be to imagine a random stranger plugging into your electrical outlets, using your electricity without your consent and then leaving you to pay for it.
